What does a conservator do - Portland, Oregon.

May 03, 2010

A conservator will file an inventory of the “protected person’s” assets with the court, transfer the assets to the conservatorship name, and obtain a bond insuring the conservator’s honest management of the assets.

A conservator then manages the protected person’s money and assets. A conservator pays bills, taxes, and living expenses. He or she can sell assets, but there are strict rules and it is definitely a good idea to seek legal advice.

A conservator has a lot of responsibility and will have to prepare and file an annual accounting with the court to explain every receipt and disbursement of assets.

The person chosen as "Conservator" has an important role in the incapacitated person's life.
